RIPLEY — An electrical issue was cited as the cause of a fire that broke out Monday in the town of Ripley.

Firefighters were alerted around 2 p.m. of the blaze at a Route 76 residence.

In a message posted to Facebook, the Ripley Hose Company No. 1 said an occupant and their pets exited the home safely. “Crews had the fire knocked down quickly,” the department said.

Firefighters from South Ripley, Westfield, Sherman, Findley Lake and Portland in Chautauqua County as well as Fuller Hose in Pennsylvania responded to Route 76 on Monday.

An investigation by the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office determined the fire was caused by an “electric issue along an exterior wall of the home.”
