Top legion officials to visit county February 17

BROCTON — The Department of New York American Legion Commander, Timothy J. Collmer, Sons of the American Legion NY Detachment Commander Peter DeAngelis, and state American Legion Auxiliary President Karen St. Hilaire will visit Chautauqua County on Feb. 17.

Collmer served 21 years in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves and is a retired corrections officer. Collmer has worked at every level within the American Legion serving on the American Legion Internal Affairs Commission and as a facilitator at the National American Legion College and dean of the Department of New York American Legion College.

DeAngelis joined the Sons of the American Legion in 1998 under his father Prisco “Pete” DeAngelis. Peter also served his country during the Korean Conflict where he earned two purple hearts. Peter is a member of Post 1636 where he serves as director of the American Legion Riders and sits on the Executive Committee of the Brooklyn Memorial Day Parade.

St. Hilaire gained her ability to join the auxiliary through her father John Allen a WWII veteran and has been with the Mattydale American Legion Auxiliary for 49 years and is a retired critical care nurse. Karen has served as the Department Empire Girls State Nurse and chaired many programs geared toward veterans and the community.

A luncheon hosted by the Chautauqua County Auxiliary will take place at the John W. Dill Post 434 in Brocton followed later in the evening by a dinner in their honor at American Legion Memorial Post 59 in Fredonia. Reservations for both are required.
