New year of ‘fun’: County Fair to return with new items, old favorites

Amusements of America will be providing more rides in 2025.

There will be a return of new and old favorites this year at the Chautauqua County Fair.

The county fair runs Tuesday, July 15 to Sunday, July 20.

This year’s fair will begin with the annual lighting of the cannon.

Following the cannon, there will be a dedication of the brand new Conservation Building at the county fair. “It is filled with animals from North America, Africa, and it’s going to be a conservation education center,” explained Linda Lamphere, county fair president.

A small, portable pond behind the building will feature a live fish display during the fair.

Krazy Train and Plane Krazy will be driving their Monster Trucks Friday night at the Chautauqua County Fair.

There will be some other new activities at Floral Hall including rock painting and making quilting squares for children. The squares will be made into a quilt that will be displayed next year.

Another new event this year will be a tinsmithing show. There will be three shows a day and the tinsmith will be located near the farm museum.

There’s lots of favorites returning as well.

On the grounds the Globe of Death Squad will return, where they ride their motorcycles in a metal globe, going in circles and upside down, avoiding one another.

The Aim High Canines Stunt Dog Show will be back as well with multiple shows throughout the day. Each show will have interactive audience participation.

The grandstand has plenty of action as well.

Tuesday and Sunday will be the demolition derbies. Tuesday’s event is at 7 p.m. while Sunday’s is at 4 p.m. with the Grand Champion to be crowned that day. There is an additional charge for reserve seats.

Wednesday will be the return of the Figure 8 racing. “We put two concrete blocks in the middle and they run a figure 8. The theory is you try not to crash in the middle where you cross,” explained fair board member Dave Wilson.

They have heats and then there’s the final race for the local drivers. “It’s just a lot of fun,” Wilson said.

Thursday’s show will be the return of the tractor pull. This is done by the Empire State Truck & Tractor Pull, a pro pulling sanctioned league.

Friday night will be the “Beat the Beast bull riding.”

Saturday night will be Monster trucks with Krazy Train and Plane Krazy.

Outside of the demolition derbies, all grandstand events are free with paid admission to the fairgrounds.

There’s a full slate on the mini-stage as well.

Some of the events at the Arthur Maytum Family Theater include: junior tractor pull, collage performing arts, Stray Kat Karaoke, junior demolition derby, Family Martial Arts, baby parade, music by Mike Gerholdt, the 96th Highlanders, junior tractor race, Erie Italian Dance Team, Danza Dance Studio, Music by Kentuckianas Bachatero (Henry Miles), Down Home Cloggers, and Music by Check 1,2,3.

There will be plenty of 4-H events as well. Their animal displays include pigs, cows, rabbits, sheep, goats, horses and more.

The 4-Hers will also be doing their annual fashion review and displaying their crafts made by the various clubs.

At Floral Hall, there will be plenty of items on display from community members, including photography, crafting, sewing, baking, gardening, amateur wine-making and more. “We would like to see what everybody does. There’s a lot of people out there who do some great things,” Lamphere said.

Rides will be provided by Amusements of America. Lamphere said they were here last year and will be bringing more rides than they did in 2024. “They were new to us last year and they weren’t aware of how much space we had. Very few places that they go have that much space to fill,” she said.
