Cassadaga Library hosting calligraphy workshop
CASSADAGA – The Seymour-Cassadaga Library will host a calligraphy workshop on Wednesday, Sept. 17 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. A demonstration in lettering arts, the interactive, hands-on event will allow participants to use various styles of pen and inks. The demonstration aims to determine a series of classes in selected disciplines to be taught in the future, so all interested individuals are encouraged to attend. Patricia Greenstein, a Cassadaga resident and calligrapher, will lead the event. Greenstein has studied calligraphy for more than 13 years and has completed multiple classes led by master penmen and calligraphers. She is a member of the International Association of Master Penmen, Engrossers, and Teachers of Handwriting (IAMPETH), as well as the Pittsburgh Calligraphy Guild. Prior registration for the workshop is required by calling the library at 716-595-3822 or in person at 18 Maple Ave., Cassadaga.

Gowanda Scarecrow Contest seeks more entries
The Gowanda Scarecrow Contest is looking for more entries. The annual scarecrow contest is a much anticipated local highlight in Gowanda as well as the anchor event of FallFest Weekend in the village. Registrations are now being accepted until Sept. 23 for scarecrow creators. As always, prize medals will be awarded for the top three scarecrows as selected by community voting.
The scarecrow contest is also a way for community groups and businesses to get their message out. Contest organizer, Bill Peglowski, is hoping that more people will take the opportunity to participate in this fun and popular event. Additionally, any Gowanda group or business that will be having an event the last weekend in September should e-mail fallfest@bowanda-ny.com with details to be added to the FallFest schedule.
