The Patterson Library, located at 40 S. Portage St., Westfield, offers a wide variety of free events and programs for the month of August. Registration is not required unless stated otherwise. Bid on unique experiences, themed baskets, and one-of-a-kind treasures while supporting Patterson Library at its Annual Benefit Auction and Chiavetta's Chicken Barbecue on Wednesday, Aug. 19. The event will take place at Eason Hall, 23 Elm St., Westfield. The barbecue begins at 5 p.m., followed by a basket raffle, and live auction at 6:30 p.m. Proceeds support Patterson's collections, programs, technology and community services. Chicken dinner tickets are on sale now at the library.
For adults 18+: Join the monthly book clubs: Book Chat, Book Talk and Mystery Book Club. Call to confirm dates; no registration is required. Cozy Crafters meets weekly on Tuesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. Work on any handicraft; no registration is required. An Octagon Gallery opening for Joseph Grice will take place Friday, Aug. 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. 13 Walls with Sandra Maggio, "Nature Unfiltered" will run through Sept. 11. Felted Vessels with Deb Penley is set for Thursday, Aug. 6 from 10:30 to 1:30 p.m. Botanical Cyanotypes for Beginners is scheduled Saturday, Aug. 8 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
In the children’s area: "Unearth a Story" Summer Reading Program will run through Aug. 12. Stop in for a roaring good summer of reading and fun. The end of summer party takes place Aug. 12 at 11 a.m.
Other children's activities include Playtime for Toddlers each Thursday at 10:15 a.m. for ages 0 to 3; Giggle and Grow Storytime will resume in September. Crochet & Crafters' Club is taking a break for the summer. DnD TEEN Meet will be offered select Saturdays, at 10 a.m. MTG the Club meets select Saturdays at 10 a.m. Patterson Teen & Tween Advisory Board is on summer break.
