Hall captures title at Valledolmo Classic

DUNKIRK -- The fifth Valledolmo Invitational Golf Classic was held last Monday at Shorewood Country Club with its largest field yet.

Italian and Sicilian food delicacies were the order of the day. A box lunch prepared by Chef Christophe and his staff contained a classic Italian sandwich with Italian meat and cheese charcuterie, pickled eggplant and a cuccidati cookie. Dinner started with appetizers of tripe provided by Scott Parker, eggplant caponata prepared by Jeff LaBarbera of The Colony Restaurant, Gumba's pizza and Cindy Coniglio's olive salad. The main course consisted of Steve Zatorsky's summer pasta, Italian pasta salad and sausage with peppers and onions all done expertly by the Shorewood kitchen staff. Dessert featured fresh-baked Italian cookies by Lisa Brisley and Bob Cerrie.

Jerry Hall was the overall champion winning the Paul LoPresto Memorial Trophy. Chuck Civiletto captured the senior title and was awarded the Carl Coniglio Memorial Trophy. Kevin Kaszuba once again won the Ron "Moony" Rys Trophy for the low Polish-American score. The Vito Corleone Flight was won by Jeff Steger with Dave Bleck the runnerup. The Sonny Corleone Flight was won by Cory Gotowka with Dan Scaglione the runnerup. The Michael Corleone Flight was won by Tony Pucciarelli with Joe Jusko the runnerup. The Peter Clemenza Flight was won by Ricky Laurito with Ben Miller the runnerup. Skins winners, all birdies, were Dan Scaglione, Chris Allegretti, Bill Coughlin and Tony Nicosia.

All of this year's proceeds will go to the Dunkirk and Fredonia high school golf teams. Committee members Ray Coniglio, Chuck Civiletto, Bill Militello, Ron Siracuse, Joe Granata and Bob Manzella would like to thank all of the sponsors, volunteers, the staff at Shorewood and all of the players. We are looking forward to next year's event.
