At their meeting on June 22, Westfield Academy and Central School Board of Education members approved the transfer of funds from the unappropriated fund balance to three district accounts.

The board approved the transfer of up to $600,000 into the Capital Improvements Reserve Fund. This fund was created and approved and approved by voters on May 16, 2023.

Board members also approved the transfer of up to $40,000 into the Teachers’ Retirement System Sub-fund. The TRS Sub-fund was created by a resolution on June 10, 2020.

Finally, the board approved the transfer of $100,000 into the Retirement Contribution Reserve. This fund was established on Aug. 24, 2009 and is designed to finance payouts to the New York State and local employees’ retirement system.

In other business, board president Wendy Dyment reviewed the results of the board’s self-evaluation. The self-evaluation form had been revised this year to be more customized for the Westfield board. “Overall, our board evaluates itself as effective,” she said.

Several board members commented on the board’s ability to collaborate, and noted that this is an important trait for their effectiveness.

“We can say that we are lucky, but collaboration is a conscious choice that we make coming into here,” Dyment said.

In matters of personnel, board members approved several leaves of absence. Casey Wolfe was approved for an absence beginning on September 10, 2026 and ending on January 4, 2027. Jared Winder was approved for a short leave, from September 1 to 11, 2026. Victoria Hall was granted a LOA from June 18 through September 18, 2026.

Also in personnel, the board approved the tenure appointment for elementary teacher Samantha Lippert, effective July 16, 2026. They also approved the creation of the position of summer laborer and appointed Jeminy Houser to this position, effective July 1.

Also, drivers, substitute drivers and monitors were approved by the board for the Elementary and Secondary Extended Summer School Program for the 2026-27 school year.
