Beavers test positive for rare disease in county

The Chautauqua County Health Department has confirmed two beavers in the Sherman area tested positive for tularemia. Cases of tularemia in animals are rarely detected in WNY; the last confirmed case in the region was a beaver identified in Cattaraugus County in 2004. Tularemia is a bacterial disease associated with animals such as rodents and rabbits and may be transmitted to humans by tick and deer fly bites. Man charged after ruckus at hospital

A patient at Brooks-TLC Hospital in Dunkirk is facing charges after an incident Monday afternoon in the emergency department. Daniel J. Jennings, 42, was charged with felony second-degree criminal mischief, fourth-degree criminal mischief and two counts of second-degree harassment. City police say at about 2 p.m., they responded to a call of a patient attacking staff. Oversized truck bottles up roundabout

A truck carrying an oversize load got stuck in the Routes 20 and 60 roundabout earlier Monday afternoon. Traffic appeared unaffected on Route 20 -- but there was a backup on Route 60 as state troopers closed the northbound lanes nearby to help a tow truck gain access to the scene.
