A trash can fire damaged the wall of an apartment house in the city on Friday. At approximately 3:37 p.m., the city of Dunkirk Fire Department was dispatched to 787 Deer St. Upon arrival, crews found that the exterior fire had spread into the wall of the apartment house. Quick action by residents and Dunkirk Police Officers kept the fire in check until firefighters could open the wall and extinguish it. There were no injuries and the cause is currently under investigation.
