Dunkirk man charged in narcotics probe

An investigation into narcotics activity in Pomfret has led to the arrest of a Dunkirk man. A search warrant was executed at 9:44 a.m. Tuesday by narcotics investigators from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and the Jamestown Police Department at 5341 Van Buren Road. Located inside the residence at the time of the search was Andrew S. Betts, 43. Fredonia’s trustees set hearings for next week on a 2026-27 budget proposal that includes a 4% tax increase and a $10 hike in the mandatory “base rate” paid by all village water users. County puts fire districts on notice for lack of payments

A pair of fire districts are facing the loss of future support regarding a lack of payment to Chautauqua County. The Chautauqua County Office of the County Attorney said in a news release issued Thursday that it is taking steps to resolve unpaid fees owed by the Forestville and Frewsburg Fire Districts for Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance intercepts and is preparing next actions to ensure compliance. Plan to post county elected officials’ salaries online proceeds

Chautauqua County is moving ahead with plans to publish the salaries of elected county officials on its website. The only significant change from the original proposal is that it would be done in the fall rather than the spring. In March, County Legislator Fred Larson, D-Jamestown, introduced a resolution that would require salaries of legislators, the executive, the clerk and the sheriff be posted on the county website by April 30 of each year.
