Carlson cut, could return to practice squad

Stephen Carlson had what he described as a “good camp” with the Chicago Bears this summer. In fact, the 6-foot-4, 250-pound tight end capped it Saturday night by making three receptions in the team’s 24-15 win at Tennessee in its final NFL preseason game. But it still wasn’t enough to earn the Jamestown native a spot on the Bears’ 53-man roster, as he was among the Bears’ final cuts, which had to be made by 6 p.m. Sunday. JAMESTOWN — The Jamestown Community College men's soccer team stayed perfect Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 NJCAA home win over Clinton CC at Strider Field. The Jayhawks’ Liam Doyle opened the scoring in the sixth minute as the sophomore won a scrum in front of the net before burying the opening goal for a 1-0 Jamestown CC advantage. RUSSELL, Pa. — The Wednesday Travel League played the always challenging Blueberry Hill Golf Course. Josh Hilliker won with the low round of 79 and became the third golfer in league history to reach 70 career tour victories. Ed Tofil, the all-time leader with 118 wins, finished second with 82. Robert Calph, second-most with 76 wins, finished third with 83. Hilliker led the front nine with 38. Hilliker and 13-year-old amateur Carter Crabtree led the back nine with 41s.
