On a monthly basis, Westfield Middle School honors one student at each grade level as the Student of the Month. Teachers and staff had the opportunity to nominate one student who they believed met the following criteria:

1. Follows Westfield’s Rules of Respect for staff and peers. 2. Shows outstanding effort and improvement or shows achievement and consistent high scores on tests, quizzes and projects. 3. Prepared daily to participate in all classes. 4. Serves as a positive role model for peers. 5. Demonstrates a positive attitude and good citizenship. Three students were selected as a Student of the Month for the month of January:

In 6th grade, Sydney Hotchkiss was selected as Student of the Month. Sydney’s favorite subjects in school are P.E. and math. She likes playing games and her math teacher, Mrs. Belcher, explains things very well. Sydney plays travel softball and also plays basketball. In the future, she hopes to make a “grand slam” during a softball game, earn 20 points in a basketball game, and make high honor roll.

For 7th grade, Casey Black was chosen. Band and E.L.A. are her favorite school subjects, because they are fun and the teachers can joke around with the students. Outside of school, Casey plays softball and likes fishing. In the future, she hopes to attend college and get a good job.

Jordin Lopez-Hernandez was chosen as the 8th grade Student of the Month for January. Jordin’s favorite subject is Social Studies because he likes learning about history. He plays Xbox during his free time, and although he does not know what his career goal will be, he knows he wants to attend college after high school.
