Joe and Tessie Russo of Silver Creek celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sept. 4. They exchanged their vows on a late summer day in 1954 in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, surrounded by family and friends. The former football star from Forestville Central High School first saw the beautiful girl with the pixie haircut as she gingerly crossed Main Street in Silver Creek years earlier. “I’m going to marry that girl one day,” he told his mother. They’ve since enjoyed six decades of love and laughter. Together, they raised three children and now enjoy eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
