Anniversary

James and Joan (McCaig) Lyons spent the month of August in London to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married at St. Mary’s Church, now St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, on Aug. 21, 1965. At the wedding, the couple received an Apostolic Blessing from Pope Paul VI.

While in London, they were joined by their three children: Kitty Crow of Fredonia, Betsy Lyons of Seattle and Kimberly Lyons of Santa Barbara. Their three grandchildren also joined them to help celebrate. On their anniversary, a four-course dinner was prepared by their daughters with food purchased at Fortum and Mason. In the course of the evening, many calls were received from relatives and friends who had attended their wedding.

Anniversary

Leonard and Mary (Privitera) Barreca were married in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Silver Creek by the Rev. Edmund O’Connor on Nov. 21, 1915. During the next 40 years, their six daughters would be married in the same church by the same priest.

The last daughter, Carolyn, met her future husband, Tony, at Buffalo State Teachers’ College, where she was the Industrial Arts Department secretary and he was a student, recently discharged from the service. They were married on Nov. 19, 1955.

A surprise 60th anniversary party at Ilio DiPaolo’s Restaurant was hosted by their four children: Bill (Katy) of Tulsa, Okla., Jim (Diana) of Charlotte, N.C.; Betsy (Bobbie) Walker of Griffin, Ga. and Tony (Jill) of Pittsford, N.Y.

Tony and Carol retired from Gowanda Central School where he taught Industrial Arts and Driver Education and she was library clerk and substitute librarian.

They have seven grandchildren: Jennifer Hoppa (Samir) Bootwalla, Carrie Ann Walker (Curt) Moseley, Callie Walker, Michael Hoppa, Christopher Hoppa, Jake Hoppa and Jerry Hoppa; and one great-grandson, Nate Moseley.

Anniversary

Vinnie and Charlotte Calarco of Westfield recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

They were married Sept. 2, 1950 at St. James Catholic Church in Westfield by cousin the Rev. Pasqualino Cannizzaro. The bride’s parents were Bernard and Estella DuChaine. The groom’s parents were Virginio and Jennie Calarco. The attendants were Geraldine Calarco, Lorraine Jaynes, Peggy Stratton, Dorothy Calarco, Carl Calarco, Anthony Calarco and Joe Cash.

Mr. and Mrs. Calarco retired from Calarco’s Restaurant. Charlotte also worked for the Chautauqua County Welfare Department.

Their children include the late Timothy Bernard Calarco, Steven Vincent ( Amy) Calarco of Jamestown and Virginia Lou (Mark) Gollnitz of Westfield.

The couple has six grandchildren and one great-grandson.

To celebrate the anniversary, a small family gathering was held at the VA Hospital in Erie, Pa.

Anniversary

Raymond and Ann (Schelling) Pauszek celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Aug. 5 during the 8 a.m. at Mass at Blessed Mary Angela Parish/St. Hyacinth Church where they were married in 1950. The couple received a special blessing from their Pastor, Rev. Matt Nycz.

They enjoyed a family picnic with their six children and spouses, grandchildren and two of three great-granddaughters in attendance on Saturday, Aug. 15. Family came from Florida, Cheektowaga, Fredonia and Dunkirk.

They are the parents of Eugene (Mary) Pauszek, Gail (Stewart) Foster, Maryanne (Carl) Panfil, Ray II (the late Cheryl), Julianne (David) Root and John (Kathleen) Pauszek.
