Benjamin Prescott Chapter of DAR recognized

WESTFIELD – The regular monthly meeting of the Benjamin Prescott Chapter of The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution was held at the McClurg Mansion in Westfield on Oct. 8. The meeting was called to order by Regent Brenda Johnson, and the Opening Ritual was conducted by Johnson and Vice Regent Deborah Cenni. Lisa Sedlmayer read the DAR president’s message and Antoinette Sherman read the DAR National Defense article. Secretary Myra Johnston read the minutes from the previous meeting and Treasurer Bonnie Larkin reported balances and financial activity.

Several chapter recognitions came from the New York State DAR Conference this year:

1.) Membership Increase – Chapter Achievement Award Level 1.

2.) One hundred percent Chapter Participation Honoring Our Heritage Through Meaningful Community Service.

3.) One hundred percent Chapter Participation in the President General’s Project “Honoring Our Heritage – Focusing on the future – Celebrating America.”

4.) First Place – Northeastern Division for Chapter With The Most Constitution Week Articles in Print Media.

Linda Kuzara officially signed her application to continue the review process at The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution headquarters in Washington, D.C. as a prospective new member to this chapter. Dawn Ubaney is continuing her work with other prospective members.

Sunday is National Day of Prayer and the 11th is Founder’s Day – National Day of Service, so please thank a veteran for their service. Dec. 17 is Wreaths Across America and the chapter will be placing wreaths at Bath, New York.

The Benjamin Prescott Chapter co-hosted the District 8 meeting on Oct. 8 at the White Inn in Fredonia.

The meeting adjourned at 1:48 p.m. and hostesses Ubaney and Johnston served homemade decorated pumpkin cupcakes, pumpkin cheesecake and apple cider.

The next meeting is 1 p.m. on Nov. 3 at the McClurg Mansion in Westfield. Those who had an ancestor that fought for freedom in the Revolutionary War and would like to join the group are asked to call Ubaney at 679-1216.
