Full slate planned for city’s Fourth

Fireworks will go off at dusk as part of Chautauqua County’s largest display on Friday.

The three-day Fourth of July Celebration with live music, food and refreshment vendors and annual fireworks display kicks off on the Dunkirk waterfront Thursday to Saturday.

On Thursday, July 3, music will be provided by Classic Rock Allstars (5 p.m.) followed by Invincible: Ohio’s Premier Pat Benatar Tribute (7:15) in Memorial Park. The music is sponsored by Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center while the overall presenters include APG, Van Buren Drive-In Activity Center, National Grid and DFT Communications.

Vendors will open at 5 p.m.

On Friday, the Fourth of July, vendors start at 11 a.m. with entertainers Party McFly (1 p.m.), Furious George (4 p.m.) and Two For Flinching (6:30 p.m.) in Memorial Park. The night concludes with the singing of the National Anthem by Cathy Ruch followed by the Starfire Corporation fireworks – the largest fireworks display in Chautauqua County. A special thanks to the community and business donors who helped defray the cost of the annual fireworks show. In case of inclement weather, the fireworks will be rescheduled to the following evening — July 5.

This year’s vendors include Taylor’s Doughboy, Tony’s Waffles, Leworthy’s Concessions, Campi’s Pizza, Merritt Estate Winery Slush Bus, Charlie’s Curly Fries, Franklin’s Honey & Apples, Santillo’s Inc., Serving Up Smiles, Arly & Izzy’s, The Best of Buffalo by Byron, Fun-B-Que Novelties, Gelati’s Italian Ice, LeafFilter Gutter Protection, Belov’d Creations and McKenna Academy of Dance.

The 11th Annual Marauder Trotter 5k Run/Walk hosted by the DHS Class of 1989 will take place Saturday, July 5 at 9 a.m. at Wright Park.

The event is sponsored by DHS ’89 classmates Mark Maslakowski, Jason Hallmark of Hallmark Wealth Planning, Scott Mekus of Eventz by Scott and D.J. Wilson of Moving Forward Run Coaching. Interested participants can sign up at www.runsignup.org under Marauder Trotter or the morning of the race from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

Proceeds will support the DHS Class of 1989 Memorial Scholarship managed by the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation and the Dan Palmer Athletic Lobby.

The Dunkirk Pier will be closed today at 7 a.m. for firework set up through the afternoon of July 5 for post-event clean up. On Friday, Central Avenue from Lake Shore Drive to the end of the pier will be closed in the early afternoon.

The Chadwick Bay Marina boat launch will be closed from 3 to 11 p.m. that day and no boat mooring will be allowed in the harborfront proximity for fireworks safety.
