The Resource Center to present annual Disability Awareness Awards Oct. 26

MAYVILLE – The achievements of people with disabilities and the efforts of those who support them will be showcased when The Resource Center holds its 28th annual Disability Awareness Awards Celebration on Wednesday, Oct. 26.

The event will be held at Webb’s Captain’s Table Restaurant on Route 394 in Mayville, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

This year’s award recipients are Sharon Buesink of Fredonia, Advocate of the Year; Southern Tier Meadows of Fredonia, Business/Employer of the Year; Rhonda Scott of Celoron, Bruce Walford Community Service Award; Fastenal of Dunkirk, Community Support Award; Willow Taft of Lakewood, Health Provider of the Year; Ke-Khee Greenough of Silver Creek, Edwin W. Roth Mental Health Award; Tyler Shaw of Lakewood; Outstanding Achievement Award; Chris Riel of Jamestown, Personal Success Award; and Sandra Clark of Falconer, Elmer J. Muench Volunteer of the Year.

In addition, Gregory Slagle of Jamestown will receive an award for being honored by New York State Industries for the Disabled, Inc. NYSID selected Slagle for recognition through its annual William B. Joslin Outstanding Performance Award Program.

This year’s Awards Selection Committee was composed of Richard Davies, a retired businessman and a past member of The Resource Center’s board of directors; Adam Dimitri of Lake Shore Savings; former TRC employee Rebecca Hamlet Kapple; Richard Koerner of RA Koerner & Associates, a TRC board member; and Beth Ray, vocational skills instructor at The Resource Center, who received the Advocate of the Year Award in 2014. They were assisted by Victoria Trass Bardo, development and events manager, and Kathy Field, associate executive administrative assistant.

Members of The Resource Center, people with disabilities, TRC staff, and the general public are invited to attend the Disability Awareness Awards Celebration. A sign language interpreter will be on hand.

The event is being sponsored by The Resource Center, TRC Foundation and NYSID. Tickets are $25 each, or $20 for members of The Resource Center. Appetizers and desserts will be served. Reservations are due by Friday, Oct. 14.
