Westfield-Mayville Rotary Club schedules ‘Pace Against Polio’ charity run/walk for Nov. 26

WESTFIELD — Do you want to get some exercise while “doing good” in the world? Are you a business or organization who is willing to be an event sponsor to aid in the fight against polio? The Rotary Club of Westfield-Mayville is holding a 5K “Pace Against Polio” fun run/walk on Saturday, Nov. 26, at Welch Field (between Elm and Union Streets) in Westfield. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the race scheduled to start  at 9 a.m. One-hundred percent of the net proceeds will be given to the Rotary Foundation PolioPlus Fund to aid in the eradication of the crippling disease of polio in the world.

Though polio was successfully eradicated from the United States through a successful immunization campaign, it remains as an endemic virus in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and has recently returned to Nigeria. The polio virus is potentially only one plane ride away from returning to the U.S.

The first 100 people to preregister for this charity race by Nov. 11 at the reduced fee of $20 will receive an event T-shirt. The registration fee on race day is $25. Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female adult and under 18 finishers in the race. Race “goodie bags” with an assortment of items will be given to all participants.

There are two levels of sponsorships for this race. The $50 “Patrons Against Polio” sponsors will be acknowledged in press releases and posted on a “Thank You Board” at the 5K race. Sponsors at this level may provide flyers, pamphlets and business cards, which will be included in the “goodie bags” for all race participants. The $100 “Patriots Against Polio” sponsors will receive all as noted at the above level, plus will have their names listed as official sponsors on the back of the race T-shirts.

To obtain registration and/or sponsor forms, or for more information, contact event chair Adele Harrington, 581-0265 or adeleharrington70@yahoo.com. Checks should be made payable to the Rotary Club of Westfield-Mayville.
