Patterson Library sets events

WESTFIELD — The Patterson Library, 40 S. Portage St., Westfield, is preparing for several upcoming holiday-related events. These events will take place throughout the entire month of December, providing holiday activities for people of all ages and all interests.

Starting Thursday, Dec. 1 at 6:45 p.m., families with children are invited to begin the holiday season at “Family Sing” with Kay Barlow and Amy Stephenson. The event will take place in the library’s reading room. Event attendees can expect holiday songs, stories and more. Two days later, families can continue early celebrations of Christmas with “Polar Express Day” on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. “Polar” will include holiday snacks, crafts, games and special guests. The day will finish with a special viewing of the movie “The Polar Express.”

Anyone wishing to get a head start on making holiday treats are encouraged to attend the library’s “Cookie Swap” on Thursday, Dec. 8, from 6 to 7 p.m. “Cookie Swap” will allow attendees to bring in their own cookies as well as try several other recipes. Registration for this event is required. Call the library at 326-2154 to register and receive more information.

Lovers of music will have the opportunity to attend a free concert at the Patterson Library, featuring middle and high school students from Westfield Central School on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 6:30 p.m. The concert, under the direction of Helen Ihasz, will feature a variety of classical and holiday music. The event will take place in the library’s reading room.

Eileen Thomas of Dove Cottage will lead a special Christmas Stencil Workshop on Thursday, Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. For more details, call the library at 326-2154.

Later in the month, families can spend time off from school and work to watch “The Secret Life of Pets” on Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 1 p.m. downstairs in the children’s library.
