Getting doggone silly to help man’s best friend

Submitted Photo

Elizabeth Ball and Tehya Halftown are fifth-graders at Silver Creek Central Elementary School who read about the plight of Gus, the badly injured English Mastiff featured in September in the OBSERVER. The students wanted to help with the dog’s vet fees and organized a Silly Sock Day fundraiser at their school. Students and staff were invited to donate 50 cents or more for the privilege of wearing silly socks intended to resemble the bandages on the rescued pup’s legs. The effort generated $295 to help take care of Gus. The students were touched by the community’s efforts to help save the dog and look forward to receiving updates as Gus recovers.
