CCE offering 3-day food preserver workshop beginning Oct. 30

JAMESTOWN — Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County will be offering a 3-day Master Food Preserver workshop to be held on Tuesday, October 30th; Wednesday, October 31st; and Thursday, November 1st, 2018. This workshop series will be held at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 20 N. Phetteplace Street, Falconer, NY 14733. Each day will run from 8am to 5pm with lunch provided.

This intensive training is designed to help participants master the process of home food preservation. Ample hands-on experience and live demonstrations are built into the course, and participants will also receive a comprehensive food preservation notebook. Prior experience is not required.

Using the safest, most updated information available, participants will learn the science of food preservation including food safety, gain hands-on experience with boiling water bath canning, pressure canning, jelled products, and quick pickling, plus observe demonstrations of freezing, drying, and fermentation. No prior experience in food preservation is required. For those seeking to progress toward obtaining a Master Food Preserver certificate from Cornell Cooperative Extension, a post-test will be given the third day of the workshop.

The cost for this three-day workshop is $150, and includes lunch each day. Chautauqua County residents are eligible for a $75 scholarship provided by the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation. Space is limited to 20 participants, so register early.
