Silver Creek invites community to art, music, yoga and meditation sessions

Registration is underway for the Community Education division’s fall session and maximum enrollment for this longtime favorite offering for adults is capped at 20 students, so those interested are advised to sign up soon.

SILVER CREEK — The Community Education division of Silver Creek Central School District is kicking off its fall slate of class offerings with some music and art classes open to the community.

Rubber Stamp Card Making: Join instructor Jody Enser and use rubber-stamping to create handcrafted greeting cards. You will make 2 each of four different cards. Each class will be different. This four-class session will be held Tuesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 10, Oct. 8, Nov. 12, and Dec. 3 in Room 154 at the high school. Registration fee: $20. Supply fee of $5 to be paid to instructor during class time.

Basics of Oil Painting: Instructor Barney Kuzara Jr., a professional artist, will help you explore your inner creativity while learning the basics of this self-expressive craft. Mr. Kuzara strives to give individual instruction to each student and is very talented in his craft. Supply list will be discussed at the first class. Please note: Maximum enrollment is 20; those interested must call to register. This eight-class session meets Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Room 149 at the high school starting Sept. 17 and ending Nov. 5. Registration fee: $40 plus supplies.

Wee Folk Yoga & the Arts: Instructor Sondra Holland, a state-certified vocal teacher, welcomes all children age 2 months through age 12 to participate in Wee Folk Yoga & the Arts. Children of all abilities, including special needs, are welcome and need to be accompanied by an adult, 18 years or older. Music, creative movement, story-telling, and drama will be partnered with Eastern yoga techniques. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a mat or towel. This six-class session will take place on Tuesdays starting Sept. 17 and ending Oct. 22 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Room 415 at the elementary school. Registration fee: $30.

Voices with Glory: Do you wish to sing with happiness and beauty? Do you wish to make harmony with your friends and family? Are you a secret shower singer? Dance out of your lonely shower solos and join our voices. Sondra Holland, a state-certified vocal teacher, wishes to help develop your very own unique voice. Let’s sing good oldies, songs of peace, love and fun. Let’s relax and enjoy, celebrating music together. This six-class session takes place Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Room 415 at the elementary school starting Sept. 17 and ending Oct. 22. Registration fee: $30.

Yoga Meets the Arts: Learn how meditation helps you tap into your creativity. In the Orient, artists, before they conceptualize their visions, perform gentle yoga and meditation. Instructor Sondra Holland learned this art technique when she was a student of TANKA, or Tibetan, artistic ways. She would enjoy very much sharing this lovely expression with future artists in Silver Creek and the surrounding area. This six-class session takes place Tuesdays from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Room 415 at the elementary school starting Sept. 17 and ending Oct. 22. Registration fee: $30.

To register by phone, call 951-8111 and leave a message with your name, number, and the name of your course(s). You will not receive a confirmation call. If the course is canceled due to insufficient enrollment, you will be called. Send in your money promptly with the registration form and your course fees. (Include separate checks for each person.) You are not permanently registered until we receive your course fee. Money must be received before the class begins. Checks or money orders can be made out to: Silver Creek CS Community Ed. Those age 65 and older qualify for a 15% discount.
