Meals on Wheels volunteers needed in Cattaraugus County

The Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging’s Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is in immediate need of volunteers at several of our Senior Wellness and Nutrition sites. The agency notes if volunteers cannot be found, the program may have to reduce the number of days meal deliveries take place.

Volunteers are needed as home delivered meal drivers to ensure that the frail, elderly, disabled home-bound remain safe and secure in their homes while receiving a nutritious meal.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the RSVP program has lost many volunteers as many people are opting to remain at home and maintain social distancing. However, this does not negate our duty to care for the frailest among us. The agency needs four volunteers for the Randolph area, four in the Allegany area, five in the Gowanda area, seven in the Olean area, four in Salamanca, and two in West Valley.

Under normal circumstances mileage reimbursement would only be provided to those 55 or older; however, mileage reimbursement for the duration of the pandemic will be available for any driver. Please call Ellen Herner, RSVP Director, at 716-701-3215 for more information.
