St. John’s United Church of Christ hot dog lunch

St. John’s United Church of Christ will hold a hot dog lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 733 Central Ave., Dunkirk. Meals will include a hot dog, chips, and soda for just $3.

Findley Lake Triathlon Festival

The Findley Lake Triathlon Festival will begin at 7 a.m. in downtown Findley Lake. It starts with a 750m swim in Findley Lake. Then athletes ride a hilly 14.3-mile bike course followed by a 5K run on the flat and fast roadway hugging the shore line of the lake. The Olympic participants will complete two loops of each course. Audubon MAPS bird banding demonstration

Drop in between 6 a.m. to noon to observe the capture of birds in “mist” nets, fitting them with identification bands, measuring, weighing and releasing them. Come to the pavilion on the West Side of the Audubon Community Nature Center, 1600 Riverside Drive, Jamestown close to Route 62. The demonstration is free, but donations are appreciated. Do not bring dogs.

Audubon 5K Run/Walk

The Audubon Community Nature Center, 1600 Riverside Road, Jamestown, will hold its Wild 5K Run/Walk, with registration from 8 to 8:45 a.m., the race at 9 and awards at 11. Registration is $30 for adults, or $25 for Nature Center or Striders members. Reservations are appreciated, but walk-ins are welcome. The deadline to register and get a t-shirt is July 19.

Westfield flea market

This New York City-style flea market begins at 8 a.m. in Moore Park with a focus on vintage and antique goods along with fashion clothing.

This fund-raiser for the Hanover Community Chamber will assist with scholarships for graduating high school seniors from the Silver Creek and Forestville School Districts and other events. Trinity Lutheran Church indoor yard sale and Sahlen’s hot dog sale

The Trinity Lutheran Church, 15 Porter Ave., Silver Creek, will hold its annual indoor yard sale from 9 a.m. through 2 p.m. Featured are a large selection of greeting cards, jewelry, and beer steins. An assortment of craft material is available and some free goodies. The men of the church will be sponsoring a Sahlen’s hot dog sale starting at 10 a.m. A value meal including a hot dog, bag of chips, bottle of water and bag of cookies will be sold for $4. Items will also be sold separately. The Silver Creek Food Pantry will receive 50% of the yard sale proceeds and 100% of the hot dog sale proceeds.

Health and Healing Expo

JC Seneca Foundation presents a health and healing expo ” Living life in Balance at the Tallchief Outdoor Events Center behind Native Pride Travel Plaza, 11359 Boulevard, Irving from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This free community event features vendors, healthy food stands, speakers and presentations, a native dancers exhibition, local farmers, giveways, a COVID19 J & J and Pfizer vaccine walk-in pop-up and health screenings. The day begins with a morning meditation and healing circle at 8 a.m. before the expo with a focus on healing from racial discrimination in the media. Experience western nedicine with native/natural methods of healing.

Horns of Hope convoy

At least 60 trucks will travel in convoy through the northern part of Chautauqua County in an hour and a half trip starting at noon at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds. The route takes them to Vineyard Drive, to 60 to 20 to Westfield, then 394 north to Route 5 at Barcelona and back to the Fairgrounds. There will be a chicken barbecue at the Fairgrounds from 1 until sold out, over 30 raffle baskets, huge prizes and special guests.

The train car will be open. 19 special riders will include kids with disabilities or a terminal illness, or former truckers with disabilities who can no longer drive their own trucks. The public is encouraged to watch the event.

Lakeshore Humane Society open adoption

The Lakeshore Humane Society, 431 E. Chestnut St., Dunkirk, will hold open adoption hours from noon to 3 p.m. Masks covering the nose and mouth must be worn at all times on the grounds of LHS. Visiting groups are limited to two per family/visit. Guests must wait in vehicles until they can be admitted. For details, call 672-1991.

Busti Gazebo concert

The 1891 Fredonia Opera House will present the movie “The Truffle Hunters,” at 7:30 p.m. Deep in the forests of Piedmont, Italy, a handful of men, 70 or 80 years young, hunt for the rare and expensive white Alba truffle – which to date has resisted all of modern science’s efforts at cultivation. They’re guided by a secret culture and training Tickets are $7 for adults, $6.50 for Opera House members/seniors, $5 for students, and sold at the door only. Unvaccinated individuals are required to follow CDC guidelines which call for masks to be worn at indoor events and social distancing to be maintained. ANY individual, can, of course, choose to wear a mask at his/her own discretion.
