Film “Knights of Swing” with filmmaker Emilio Palame

1891 Fredonia Opera House, 7 p.m. $5 to $10. Set in the late 1940’s, a group of young jazz musicians unite to form a “really swingin’ big band.” Features an introduction and talk back with filmmaker and SUNY Fredonia graduate Emilio Palame.

Blessed Mary Angela Holy Name Society can and bottle refund drive

Parish Social Center parking lot, Roberts Road, Dunkirk, 9 a.m. until noon. Holy Name members will unload them from the trunks of those donating. Free hot dogs and cold beverages will be served from 10 a.m. to noon in appreciation of those who support this program.

Filling the Gap and The Resource Center presents: Step Up for Autism

200 Dunham Ave., Celoron. 1.5 mile walk to the Lucille Ball Memorial Park and back, basket giveway, sweets auction, information about service and supports for people on the autism spectrum. Registration and check-in for walk at 8:30 a.m., walk at 10. Auction at 11:15 a.m. Entry fee $20 per person, includes a t-shirt. Other memorabilia available for purchase. Donations welcome.

Fredonia Farmers Market

The Fredonia Farmers’ Market is held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday mid-May through October on Church Street, downtown Fredonia. It features a variety of vendors, with special events TBA. A number of vendors accept EBT, NYS Farmers Market Nutrition checks and WIC vegetables and fruits checks.

Westfield Farmers’ and Artisans’ Market

Moore Park, center of Westfield, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Locally grown produce, meats, baked goods, food products, craft items and more. Prepared foods suitable for breakfast and lunch and hot and cold beverages are also available. The Westfield Flea, an antiques and vintage market, is on the other side of the park.

South Dayton family fun day

South Dayton Village Park. Book sale at the Village Library from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Children can bring one canned food to the Library for the South Dayton Food Pantry and select a free book and bookmark. Farmers’ Market in the park 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Gail Patterson will offer information about Cornell Cooperative Extension programs. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., sundance Kids Farm Petting Zoo with Mike Morton. Free slice of pizza for kids at noon as supplies allow. Magic of Don Rogers show 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the library. Drum Circle with Don Gould from 2 to 4 p.m. Make music with provided buckets and drum sticks. Fun for the whole family. Bring lawn chairs, blankets.

Audubon Community Nature Center presents: Accessible Bird Day

1600 Riverside Road, Jamestown from 10 to noon. Free for adults and children. Walks focus on identifying birds by sight and identifying them by sound. Bring binoculars. Includes opportunities for indoor and outdoor hands-on exploration, Ask questions of an ACNC educator.

Rockin’ the Commons

Church Street, Fredonia, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. This fund-raiser for Roswell Park features live music from local and Buffalo bands, a food truck, raffle baskets, family-friendly activities and more.

St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church Porpiglia’s chicken barbecue

Corner of W. Fourth and Lark streets, 11 a.m. until sold out. One-half barbecued chicken, potato salad and cole slaw, plus beverages for eat-ins. As an extra, raffle tickets for a painting by artist Audrey Schafer, a member of St. John’s will be available. All are welcome to attend.

Free car seat safety check

SUNY Fredonia Facilities Service complex off of Ring Road on campus, noon to 2 p.m. for parents and caregivers. Law enforcement agencies combine to offer trained technicians to educate how to choose and properly install the appropriate seat for a child’s age, size and vehicle so that it can be correctly used every time. Lakeshore Humane Society Saturday open adoption hours

The Lakeshore Humane Society, 431 E. Chestnut St., Dunkirk, will hold open adoption hours from noon to 3 p.m. The public is welcome to see the dogs and cats in need of loving homes. Tours of the facility will not be given. Individual appointments are available throughout the week by leaving a message at 716 672-1991; press “1” for dogs or “2” for cats. Art & Architecture – Pompeii: Sin City

1891 Fredonia Opera House, 1 p.m. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 students. Masks are no longer required at Fredonia Opera House events, but all patrons are encouraged to wear masks while in the venue, and to socially distance when possible. Masks are available in the lobby and in the box office if needed.
