Beekeeper meeting

set for Thursday

JAMESTOWN — Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County’s Master Gardener Program is excited to announce that Chautauqua County Beekeepers Association will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Fluvanna Community Church, 3363 Fluvanna Ave. June’s topic will focus on honeybee diseases with an emphasis on American Foulbrood (AFB). AFB is an infectious bacterial brood disease that is regulated in NYS. Did you know AFB is most commonly transmitted through spores of bacteria, which can be dormant in the colonies or used equipment for 70 years or more! https://extension.psu.edu/honey-bee-diseases-american-foulbrood

CCBA Members Rod Shoup and Mike & Shannon Rinow recently attended a NYS Agriculture & Markets training in partnership with NY Bee Wellness at CCE Madison County; they will share AFB information they learned including best practice to reduce spread. Scott Donnelly, our NYS regional inspector, will be there to answer questions and share information as well.

To raise awareness about AFB and reduce risk in Chautauqua County, Rod, Mike and Shannon will provide free apiary visits to local beekeepers to teach them to inspect and identify diseases in their hives! Sign-up will occur at the monthly meetings or by emailing ccba1870@gmail.com.

Meetings are scheduled for the second Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. You do not need to be a beekeeper to join, and all are welcome. We hope to see you there.

Starting at $2.99/week.
