JAMESTOWN – The most active touring piano-wind chamber music ensemble in the world, the Pulnec Trio, will perform at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Jamestown on Friday at 8 p.m. Presented by the Jamestown Concert Association, the trio is comprised of Bryan Young, bassoonist, Vladimir Lande, oboist and Irina Kaplan, pianist, the trio was founded in 2003 and has performed all over the United States and in music festivals around the world.

Hailed by the Washington Post for its “intriguing and beautifully played program, convincing elegance, and near-effortless lightness and grace,” the Poulenc Trio brings together three uniquely gifted virtuosos. Mr. Young serves as the principal bassoonist of the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra and is a member of the IRIS Orchestra in Memphis; Lande, in addition to playing the oboe, is the Principal Guest Conductor of the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra; and Kaplan trained at the St. Petersburg Conservatory and is now on the piano faculty at Peabody Conservatory. The group is committed to expanding its repertoire through the rediscovery of old masterpieces and the commissioning of new works. Since its founding, the Trio has greatly expanded the repertoire available for the oboe, bassoon, and piano, with 20 new works written for and premiered by the group.

The Friday evening concert will include pieces by Handel, Shostakovich, Alfred Schnittke, Laura Kaminsky, and, of course, Francis Poulenc, the French composer from whom the group takes its name.
