International radio broadcasting and the role it plays in global communication will be examined by Dr. Miroslawa Wielopolska-Szymura in the final Brown Bag Talk of the spring semester at the State University of New York at Fredonia.

Her talk is on Wednesday at noon in Williams Center Room S204.

Dr. Wielopolska-Szymura, currently a Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Visiting Professor in the Department of Communication, is an associate professor at the Institute of Journalism and Media Communication at the University of Silesia in Katowice. She has been deputy director of the Journalism and Social Communication degree program there since 2020.

Much of Wielopolska-Szymura’s scholarship and teaching is dedicated to combating disinformation and fake news – a hot topic in today’s cultural climate. She has also been published widely on topics of communication, media and politics, including the politicization of press culture, media freedom, the role of radio as a medium, media in service of the armed forces and radio as a tool of international communication, among other areas.

Brown Bag talks, which are sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, are free and open to the public. “Gradually, then Suddenly: Understanding Change,” has been the theme of this year’s series.

The monthly talk program is supported by the Carnahan Jackson Fund for the Humanities of the Fredonia College Foundation. Refreshments are furnished by the Faculty Student Association.
