Fredonia Farmers’ Market to host Swedish band

The Fredonia Farmers’ Market will host Svenska Spelman’s toe-tapping Scandinavian music on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

A traditional Scandinavian gammaldans (a barn dance band), the group has been together for 12 years and are the host band for the Jamestown Scandinavian Festival. They have played all over the eastern U.S., including the Swedish Embassy in Washington D.C., and for the King & Queen of Sweden.

Svenska Spelman plays a wide variety of polkas, schottisch, hambos, waltzes, & polskas from all of the Scandinavian countries.

Current members of the band are Don Sandy (accordion), Kathy Howard Petersen (fiddle and nyckelharpa), Cheryl Ritch (fiddle), Tom Gestwicki (guitar, mandolin & tenor banjo), and Tim Cudney (bass currently on leave).

The Fredonia Farmers’ Market operates on Church Street in front of Village Hall from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday through the end of October.

Local vendors sell fresh produce and fruits, humanely raised meats and poultry, honey, maple products, free range eggs, bread, baked goods, fresh flowers, knitted wear, beach glass jewelry, baskets, and much more.

EBT benefits as well as FMNP and WIC checks are accepted at the Fredonia Farmers’ Market for approved food items.
