College to host Harp Day Sunday

Submitted Photo Harpists of all ages will give a combined, ensemble performance to conclude the second annual Fredonia Harp Day.

Harp Day at Fredonia takes place on Sunday, May 5 in Mason Hall on the State University of New York at Fredonia campus. The day-long event, co-hosted by Sonja Inglefield and Mario Falcao, brings harpists of all ages and levels together for a day of practice and performance, including two concerts that are free and open to the public.

At 1 p.m., guest artist Adam Phan will give a recital for Harp Day participants and the community-at-large. Phan is currently attending The Juilliard School where he is studying with Harpist Nancy Allen of the New York Philharmonic. He has participated in masterclasses with renowned harpists Judy Loman, Gretchen Van Hoesen, Alice Giles, and Gillian Benet Sella. Phan has also spent summers as a member of the National Youth Orchestra touring both China and Europe with world class conductors, Valery Gergiev, and Charles Dutoit. This summer he will be attending the Aspen Music Festival with Anneleen Lenaerts and Allen. Phan is a proud recipient of the Kovner Fellowship at The Juilliard School and a Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist. Organizers are thrilled to welcome Adam to campus for this event.

At 4 p.m., participants of Harp Day will give a Grand Finale Ensemble Performance for the public. This is a wonderful music experience, with over 20 harpists, young to old, performing together.

Both events are free and will be held in Mason Hall, Room 1080. For more information, call the Fredonia School of Music, 673-3151, or visit us online, fredonia.edu/music
