JAMESTOWN — The Fenton History Center in Jamestown is hosting a Victorian May Day Concert on May 9 from 7-9 p.m.. Learn about the history of piano manufacturers in Jamestown, listen to Victorian music on the 1887 Ahlstrom Piano, and enjoy light refreshments.

Local pianist Charles Johnson will play a selection of Victorian-era music on the Fenton’s historic Ahlstrom piano. He will be accompanied by vocalist Marci Johnson, and musician Rick Lundquist. After the performance enjoy light refreshments, meet the musicians, and tour the beautiful Fenton Mansion.

Charles Johnson has a bachelor’s degree in music education from Summit University and a master’s degree in music education from Eastern Michigan University. He teaches private piano lessons in Jamestown, works as the organist and choir director at Zion Covenant church, performs as a piano accompanist for the 5-12 grade choirs at Southwestern Central School, and performs as the piano and organ accompanist for the CMP Chorale and Chamber Singers in Jamestown.

Marci Johnson is currently an Adjunct Voice Instructor at SUNY JCC. She also teaches privately out of her home in Jamestown. Marci received her Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance from Waldorf College and her Masters of Music in Vocal Pedagogy from Oakland University. She has performing experience in Musical Theater and Operettas. Marci is currently the Vocal Director for Jamestown High School musicals.

Rick Lundquist is a native of Jamestown and earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Education from SUNY Fredonia, with additional graduate work at SUNY Potsdam. He had a 35-year career in public school music, retiring in 2012. Currently, he is a NYSSMA adjudicator and Zone Representative for Western New York, as well as being Adjunct Faculty at both JCC and SUNY Fredonia School of Music. He is starting his 25th year as director of the Jamestown Municipal Band and performs in other local groups and in the pit for school musicals. He and his wife, Patricia, are both volunteers at the Fenton, where Rick also serves as President of the Board.
