Opera House Cinema Series to screen Pavarotti

Lucas Pavarotti

The next feature film in the Opera House Cinema Series is the Ron Howard-directed documentary, “Pavarotti.” It will be screened on Saturday, Aug. 10, and Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 7:30 p.m.

Featuring never-before-seen footage, concert performances and intimate interviews, Howard puts audiences front row center for an exploration of “The Voice…The Man…The Legend. Luciano Pavarotti,” as he examines the life and career of the famed opera icon who brought opera to the people.

Adam Graham, in the Detroit News, calls the film “a simple picture of a complicated man, (that) hits the high notes: the performances, the cheers, the adulation. Consider it a greatest hits.” Kenneth Turan, in the Los Angeles Times, calls it “a warm, emotional and completely involving film about the celebrated tenor.” Todd Gilchrist, in TheWrap, calls it “a celebration of the individual behind that facade and a reminder that it’s as much his humanity as his talent that made him a star.” Todd McCarthy, in the Hollywood Reporter, says “this was not a man wanting for friends; and his likability floods the film. Twelve years since his death he’s bound to make even more new fans thanks to Howard’s valentine.” Rated PG-13 for brief strong language and a war-related image, “Pavarotti” runs one hour, 54 minutes.

The Opera House Cinema Series is sponsored by Lake Shore Savings Bank. Tickets are available at the door for $7 (adults), $6.50 (seniors & Opera House members) and $5 (students) the night of each screening.
