Concert series to open Sunday with Meraki Trio

Submitted Photo The Meraki Trio will perform Sunday at this season’s first event of the Fredonia First United Methodist Church’s Hannah Hasbrouck Petersen Memorial Concert Series.

The Hannah Hasbrouck Petersen Memorial Concert Series is pleased to announce the first event of the new season. On Sunday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m., the Meraki Trio will present a concert of contemporary and original music.

Members of the Meraki Trio have performed extensively throughout Western New York.

Clarinetist Andrew Martin Smith has earned degrees in performance and composition, including a doctorate from Bowling Green State University. Jamie Leigh Sampson is a bassoonist and composer who specializes in contemporary bassoon techniques. Sandra Leary runs a private piano studio and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in collaborative piano at the State University of New York at Fredonia. They formed a trio in 2018 to explore and expand the ensemble repertoire and sound of their traditional instruments.

The HHP Series is a music ministry of the Fredonia First United Methodist Church. It was founded in memory of Hannah Hasbrouck Petersen, who grew up singing in the choir, and was director of the choir at the time of her death in 2010.

Concerts take place at the church, located at 25 Church St. in Fredonia. The church is fully handicapped accessible, and all are invited to attend. Admission is always free, but donations are always gratefully accepted.
