Fredonia students to join Georgia Stitt in performance of her compositions

Georgia Stitt, a composer, music director, pianist and music producer, will be joined by members of the Student Opera Theatre Association at the State University of New York at Fredonia in a performance of her music+ at a public concert, sponsored by the Ethos New Music Society, on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 8 p.m., in Rosch Recital Hall.

Ms. Stitt has won awards for original musicals that include “Samantha Space, Ace Detective,” “Big Red Sun” and “The Water.” She is a recipient of the ASCAP Frederick Loewe Fellowship, the Harold Arlen Award and the Sue Brewer Award for excellence in music composition.

Non-theatrical credits of Stitt include “With Hope and Virtue,” which used text from President Barack Obama’s 2009 inauguration speech; “Joyful Noise,” a setting of Psalm 100; and “Let Me Sing for You,” which was performed at The Kennedy Center.

Stitt was the on-set music supervisor for the Anna Kendrick/Jeremy Jordan film “The Last Five Years” and previously worked as a vocal coach for the NBC hit show “America’s Got Talent.” She has taught at the University of Southern California and Pace University. Stitt received her M.F.A. in Musical Theater Writing from New York University and her B.Mus. in Music Theory and Composition from Vanderbilt University.

She is the founder and president of Maestra, an activist organization for women musicians in the theatre.

Students who will be performing with Stitt include: Brianna Ross, Marisa Rivera, Lauren Layfield, Morgan Milone, Brett Jackson, Colin McKee and Avery Carlson.

Tickets for the concert are $6 for students, $12 for community members, and can be purchased at the door and at the Fredonia Ticket Office in the Williams Center.

Ethos New Music Society is a student-run and student-funded organization at Fredonia that hosts guest composers and performers and presents concerts of student works.
