Opera House Cinema Series to Screen Bombshell

The next feature film in the Opera House Cinema Series is the Oscar-nominated “Bombshell,” starring Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie and Charlize Theron. It will be screened on Saturday, Feb. 15, and Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 7:30 p.m.

Starring Academy Award winners Charlize Theron and Nicole Kidman, and Academy Award nominees John Lithgow and Margot Robbie, “Bombshell” is based on the real life scandal inside the most powerful and controversial media empire of all time, Fox News. It is a revealing look at the explosive story of the women who brought down the infamous man at the heart of the scandal, Fox News CEO Roger Ailes. Actresses Theron and Robbie earned Oscar nominations for Best Actress and Supporting Actress, respectively. The film also earned an Oscar nomination for hair/make-up.

Kenneth Turan, in the Los Angeles Times, calls the film “a ferociously entertaining dramatization of how an unlikely group of women exposed and deposed media titan Roger Ailes. It is as harrowing as it is triumphant in its depiction of the way it all came to pass.” Tom Russo, in the Boston Globe, calls it “both soberly, sympathetically thoughtful and bristling with the energy of its high-powered setting.” James Berardinelli, in ReelViews, calls it “a compelling ‘ripped from the headlines’ motion picture that unfolds like a page-turner.” Rated R for sexual material and language throughout, “Bombshell” runs one hour, 49 minutes.
