‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ set for Studios

“Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” has performances this week and next.

Main Street Studios in Fredonia will be closing out its regular season this month, with the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice classic, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”

Performed with an entirely new set design and seating arrangement for the theatre, this show is a constant crowd favorite, for its upbeat musical numbers and fun costumes.

“Joseph” is set in Biblical times, portraying the story of Jacob, the father of the 12 tribes of Israel, his favoritism towards his son Joseph, leading to the jealousy of Joseph’s 11 brothers. Joseph had the ability to interpret dreams, and his interpretations didn’t earn the favor of his brothers, who sell him off into slavery and they tell Jacob that he is dead.

His reputation was noticed by the Pharaoh of Egypt, which led to Joseph being brought out of prison to help the people of Egypt through an impending famine which ravaged for seven long years. Eventually hunger and desperation bring Joseph’s brothers to Egypt for food, to which (unrecognizable to his brothers), he decides to teach them a lesson, which is quickly learned and they confess their wickedness. In the end Joseph forgives his brothers, and is reunited with his father who has been long pining away at his loss.

The show is an exciting upbeat family show, performed by the ever-growing talented cast of actors and community members at Main Street Studios, with a special appearance by the award winning Sarah Schoch as the Narrator for four of the performances. Also playing the narrator will be Clare O’Connell, fresh off of her moving portrayal of the adult Amy March in Little Women.

Joseph will be played by Casey Armstrong and Caleb Goehrig. Jacob will be portrayed by Richard Newton, in his fifth performance at Main Street Studios and his first musical role. Incredibly talented regulars of Main Street, Jack Tuccio (Pharaoh), Aiden Burrell (Rueben), Riley Wilson (Simeon), and Kelly Worster (Judah), all have fun, high energy solos. Main Street newcomers, Michael Horvath and Margret Bache will be portraying the antagonists, Potipher and his wife. Shawn Piglowski and Toby Lim will be portraying the Baker and Butler respectively, and the cast is rounded out by Haylea-Ann Self, Ian Smith, Hans Lemiszko and Mason Wienke as remaining brothers, and an ensemble cast including Sophia Starks, Natalie Crowell, Evelyn Ryan, and a children’s choir. The show is directed by Joseph Newton, with assistant director and stage manager Emma Newton, and a huge crew of set, prop, costume, and technical wizards.

Main Street Studios is located at 50 W. Main St., Fredonia, in the alley behind the shops and storefronts, in the former Card Seed Company factory and warehouse off of the west municipal parking lot downtown.

It is set up to be a fun, unique and intimate environment for all who attend, different for every show, with the audience practically “on-stage” with the performers, who will no doubt interact with the audience at times. Shows for “Joseph” will be on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and June 20 and 21 at 7:30 p.m. There will be one afternoon performance on Saturday at 2 p.m. It is recommended that tickets be purchased in advance at mainstreetstudios.seatyourself.biz as seating is limited, with remaining tickets available at the door.

Starting at $3.50/week.
