Local authors plan event in Westfield

WESTFIELD — Bibliophiles! Now is your chance to spend a relaxing afternoon with a group of talented, local authors and it’s all happening at Grace & Abe’s in Westfield on Saturday, July 12 from 2 to 4 pm.

With genres spanning from memoirs to mysteries, romance to action, sci-fi to fantasy, this will be an event not to be missed. So, come out, meet your next favorite author, grab some books, and listen as the authors read excerpts from their literary works, all as you sit and enjoy a pint and a wood-fired pizza.

Just to give you an idea of what’s in store, Jason Bussman will be reading from his memoir entitled “Fumble,” a laugh-out-loud, play-by-play book filled with short stories of how, as a father, he feels like he is just barely keeping up and, as he puts it, just “trying not to drop the ball”. Then, check out Trenton Lutes’s Terra-Healer Trilogy, a fast-paced, young adult, dystopian sci-fi series with as much humor and sarcasm as there are unexpected and heart-breaking moments. Not to mention a group of youngsters with superpowers fueled by the very pollution that destroyed their world.

You’ll also hear from Anthony Izzo as he shares a few pages from his newest novel, “We Deal in Blood,” where vampires have invaded and the war to survive is unexpectedly aided by a group of vampire vigilantes who rescue humans… for the right price. Or perhaps blood and vampires isn’t your thing?

Where’s the romance you ask? Well, Joan Wahl will be on-hand to share some of her novel, “Summer Love in Music City,” featuring a small-town librarian and a famous country music superstar to get your blood pumping.

Maybe a mystery is more your cup of tea. Catherine D’Agostino joins the group with her book, “Braided Lies: A Thousand Islands Castle Mystery,” set in the St. Lawrence River area. No bodies? No witnesses? No evidence? Presumed … drowned? But what really happened? Perhaps Tiffany Hopkins could let you in on the secret. As a trained medium, Hopkins focuses on normalizing talking to the dead. Her book, “Beyond: A Living Person’s Guide to the Dead,” encourages readers to increase their powers of empathy, intuition, and imagination to inspire creativity, heal body and mind, and even create community.

TJ Buck and Dawn Swanson round out the event and the two couldn’t be more different, but in the best possible way. Buck’s latest novel, Grappling with Trouble, follows the lives of two bodyguards as they try to protect their client, a sleazy private eye with enough trouble following him around to keep them more than busy.

Exploding sedans, shady deals, and flaming wigs are only a few of the small-town shenanigans this trio will experience. In contrast, Swanson’s children’s book, Charlotte, The Very Good, Very Naughty Girl, brings us a story about… you guessed it, Charlotte. pparently, Charlotte has learned to say “No” a lot. Hijinks are likely to ensue, but explosions and burning hair pieces will be left to the professionals. Thank goodness!

Starting at $3.50/week.
