Billy Joel tribute band coming to Opera House

The Cold Spring Harbor Band is part of “The Billy Joel Tribute Experience” concert on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center will present “The Billy Joel Tribute Experience” with Pat Farrell and the Cold Spring Harbor Band in concert on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The concert celebrates 50 years since Billy Joel performed in Fredonia in Dods Hall on the State University of New York at Fredonia campus.

“The Billy Joel Tribute Experience” is an immersive concert-style theater show chronicling the amazing journey of Billy Joel from his humble beginnings to his incredible success as one of the best-selling artists of the 1970s and 80s. Using photo projections and original film footage, and featuring a full band performing hits including “You May Be Right,” “Scenes From An Italian Restaurant,” “New York State Of Mind,” and more, it culminates with an audience participation rendition of Joel’s signature song “Piano Man.”

Named after Joel’s first solo album, The Cold Spring Harbor Band is headed by Pat Farrell, a SUNY Fredonia graduate whose daughter, Sara, is currently enrolled as a music education student. Pat performed at the 2014 NFL Super Bowl Pre Game party at the Meadowlands and the 2015 NY Mets World Series VIP Pre-Game party at Citifield.  He has shared the stage with John Legend, Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes, and Dave Mason.

With more than 140 million album sales since 1971, Billy Joel’s memorable lyrics and timeless melodies that poignantly captured the times made him one of the most successful artists of all time. Nominated for 23 Grammy Awards and winning six, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999.

Tickets to the show are $25 (Adults), $23 (Opera House Members), and $10 (Students) and can be purchased in person at the Opera House Box Office or by phone at 716-679-1891, Tuesday-Friday, noon to 4:30 p.m. They can be purchased online anytime at www.fredopera.org.
