United Senior Citizens hold meeting

The United Senior Citizens held its May meeting at the Fredonia Beaver club with 35 attending. The delicious catered lunch consisted of lemon-rosemary balsamic chicken, roasted red potatoes, fresh green beans, tossed salad with homemade dressings and cherry pie.

Genevieve Ludeman was the greeter /attendance taker; President Mary Matteson led the group in the “Pledge of Allegiance” and the singing of “God Bless America”.

Vice President Linda Riley offered the invocation and afterwards, Brandi-our waitress, was given applause for the beautiful lunch she set up.

May birthdays were announced: Dolores Borrello, Linda Cobb, Ann Cohen, Russell Dalby, Patricia Ebert, John Joy and Lucy Saeli. Mayme Joy also being wished a very happy birthday while living with family elsewhere.

The slate of officers was presented by President Matteson and motion was made to accept the slate by member Phyllis Laurito, seconded by Rosemary Mancuso. Officers for the 2018-19 year: President M. Matteson; Vice President Linda Riley; Treasurer Evonne Hennebery and Secretary Robin Carr.

Callers for May were thanked: Riley, Ebert, Nancy Niebel and Josephine Wierczynski.

For fun, Master Joke Teller Dalby told one which was well-received while Raffle Handler Joe Greco Jr and assistant Carmen Johnson announced winners: Wierczynski, Borrello, Nick Andin and Kathy Kamery.

The United Senior Citizens meet the second Monday of the month at the Fredonia Beaver Club at noon and is open to seniors 55 years and older. Members enjoy catered lunches, recreation, bingo and camaraderie in addition to the occasional special speaker.

The next meeting will be June 11 and lunch will consist of chicken and biscuits, redskin smashed potatoes, fresh vegetable medley, tossed salad with homemade dressings and strawberry shortcake. To reserve a lunch for you and/or a guest, send $10 check per lunch made out to United Senior Citizens and mail to Evonne Hennebery, PO Box 706, 44 East 5th Street, Dunkirk, New York 14048 by June 4.

United Senior Citizens ask the public to reflect, respect and remember those who died in military service by observing Memorial Day and we look forward to seeing you June 11!
