Collins 50 Plus Seniors

Activities for the week of Jan. 27 – Feb. 2

Monday, Jan. 28: Exercises with Pat, 10 a.m., L.K. Painter Center gym.

Tuesday, Jan. 29: Active Senior Aerobics with Kim, 9 a.m., Painter Center gym, small fee.

Wednesday, Jan. 30: Exercises with Pat, 10 a.m., Painter Center gym. Quilting with Florence, 10:30 a.m., Collins Library Community Room. Games & Crafts with Pat, 1 p.m., Painter Center Yellow Room. Senior Bowling, 1 p.m. at K&L Lanes in Gowanda, small fee.

Thursday, Jan. 31: Yoga with Donna, 11 a.m., Painter Center gym, small fee.

Friday, Feb. 1: Percussion & Exercises with Kim, 9 a.m., Painter Center gym, small fee. Exercises with Pat, 10 a.m., Painter Center gym. Movie Day: 1 p.m. at the Collins Library. This month’s film is a comedy/drama starring Robert Redford and Sissy Spacek. Popcorn will be served.

**Join the Collins 50 Plus Seniors on Wednesday, May 1 as they travel to Erie, PA for the Station Theatre for the comedy show “Four Old Broads.” Flyers are available at the Collins Town Hall lobby or the L.K. Painter Center. We will be travelling by comfortable coach bus, dinner and show all for $89. Call 532-2006 ext. 21 for more details and to sign up.

***The next AARP Defensive Driving Class will be held on Tuesday, March 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the L.K. Painter Community Center in Collins. To sign up call 532-2006 ext. 21 and leave a message with your name, phone number, and if you would like to have the lunch. The fee for the class is $20 for AARP members / $25 for non-members. Make your check or money order (no cash) out to “AARP” and bring it with you when you check in on the day of the class. The fee for the lunch is $3 and will be collected when you check in on the morning of the class. Class begins at 9 a.m. sharp –please check in by 8:30 a.m. — bring your check, your AARP member card (if a member), your driver’s license and a pen.

Collins Center Seniors News

The next meeting for the Collins Center Seniors will be Monday, Jan. 28 at the Gowanda American Legion with a pot luck lunch at noon followed by a short meeting.

Seats are available and nonmembers are welcome for “ELVIS, LAS VEGAS STYLE” staring Terry Buckwald at the Seneca Niagara Casino on Monday, March 25. Cost is $49.00 and includes transportation, tickets to the 1 p.m. show, $15 slot play and a free lunch buffet. Payment is due by Jan. 28.

New: Sunday, April 14 following a delicious sit-down lunch at Panes Restaurant, we will head to the Riviera Theatre & Performing Arts Center to enjoy “VICKI LAWRENCE & MAMMA” from top priced Orchestra seats. We all enjoyed hours of laughs watching Vicki, Mamma and the now-legendary “Carol Burnett Show”.

NEW: Tuesday, April 30th. we are going to enjoy “MURDER AT LOST MEMORIES MANOR”. A new “Who Done it” set in a lively retirement community. We will travel to downtown Buffalo’s newly restored 115-year-old landmark The Barrel Factory for a delicious buffet luncheon before the performance. We will Stop at the Distillery and Tasting Room to sample some of the finest craft spirits in New York State.

Monday, May 13we are going to del LAGO CASINO for a customer appreciation day. Cost is $32, and we receive $25 in play and a free lunch buffet. Depart at 7:30 a.m. return 7:30 p.m.

“OCEAN CITY” May 17-23, 2019. We will spend 2 nights in Annapolis with a city tour, visits to Fort McHenry, the US Naval Academy, experience an Annapolis Harbor Cruise and more. We will spend 3 nights in Ocean City, Maryland with oceanfront rooms. We will enjoy Eco-Cruise aboard “The Explorer” around Assawoman Bay, have a guided tour of Assateague Island’s famous “Home of the Wild Ponies” and more. Our last night will be in Lancaster. The Sight & Sound Treater production of “JESUS” will be available. This trip is packed full of lots of interesting sights and experiences and beautiful hotel accommodations.

Friday, May 24 we begin the day with coffee and donuts at Kleinhans Music Hall. Then enjoy the performance “AN ALL-AMERICAN SALUTE” and celebrate American history through 200+ years of music. Experience our heritage from the Civil War forward, saluting our troops throughout the ages. We will enjoy a delicious lunch buffet at Curly’s Restaurant following the performance. Depart at 8 a.m. return 4:30 p.m.

Tuesday, June 18 we will head to the Seneca Niagara Casino for “BROADWAY TONIGHT LIVE! – MUSICAL REVUE.” This Broadway tribute will take you through Broadway’s greatest hits filling the stage with beautiful customs, dramatic singing, exciting choreography and dynamic music and dancing. They will be performing hits from shows such as A Chorus Line, Cabaret, Chicago, West Side Story just to name a few. Cost includes seats for the show $20 in casino play and a free lunch buffet. Depart 8:15 a.m. return 4:45 p.m.

NEW: THOUSAND ISLANDS Aug. 18-21. We will enjoy a wine tasting at the 1000 Islands Winery, a fabulous “Two Nation Lunch Cruises”, Tours of Boldt Castle and the (possibly haunted) Singer Castle with a tour of the Antique Boat Museum and more. NOTE: This trip is joint with Know How Tours and will fill fast.

Dunkirk Senior Center News

Effective Jan. 22, Tai Chi advanced (veteran) class will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 to 3:30 p.m. through the last week of May. Beginners classes have been discontinued until the fall session begins.

Members can sign up for a spaghetti dinner at the Center beginning Tuesday, Jan. 15. The dinner will take place Sunday, Feb. 24 from 1 to 3 p.m. The cost is $8. This event is eat-in only; there will be no take-outs available.

Travel updates for 2019:

Monday, Feb. 18, Presidents Day, will be a Presque Isle Casino trip. The cost of $26 per person includes $25 casino bonus. There is no food allowance. There are still a few seats available. The Center is closed on this date, but will be open at 8:30 a.m. for the bus departing at 10 a.m.

Monday, March 11 is a trip to del Lago Casino. The member cost is $35 per person. This includes $25 casino bonus and free buffet. Sign-up begins Monday, Feb. 11.

Wednesday, April 17 will be the annual Easter shopping trip to the Broadway Market. The cost is $45 per person. Lunch will be at Chef’s, with the menu choice to be made at the time of sign-up. Sign-up begins Monday, Feb. 4.

Tuesday, May 28 will be a Sounds of Music Beach Boys Tribute Matinee Show at the Seneca Allegany Casino. The cost is $73 per person and includes $20 free slots and a free lunch buffet. Sign-up begins Monday, March 11. Trip organizers are checking for interest in two shows at Shea’s. The first is “Million Dollar Quartet” for a matinee performance on Sunday, March 17. Dinner would be at Ilio DiPaolo’s. The price of $143 per person would include the show, tips, meal and transportation. There would be non-assigned seating for the bus. The second is “Rent,” with a date to be determined between March 2 to 30. Dinner would be at Ilio DiPaolo’s. The price of $143 per person would include the show, tips, meal and transportation. There would be non-assigned seating for the bus. With questions and for reservations, call the Center at 366-7530 or Barb at home 366-6643 between 3 to 6 p.m. A minimum of 20 people are needed for these trips.

Monday, June 10, a trip is scheduled at 11:30 a.m. to see Terry Buchwald at the Depew Polish Falcons. The $63 per person price includes lunch, the show and tips. There will be a candy stop on the way home. Sign-up begins Monday, March 4.

The office, located at 45 Cliffstar Court, is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. and Thursday all day from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

2019 membership dues ($5) are past due. The year runs Jan. 1 through Dec. 31. You must have an active membership to participate in all programs.

Tuesday, June 25, a customer appreciation casino trip is planned for the Niagara Casino. The cost is $30 per person and includes $30 slot play and free buffet. Sign up will begin in April; watch for date.

Tuesday, July 23, a second customer appreciation casino trip is planned for the Seneca-Allegany Casino in Salamanca. The cost is $30 per person and includes $30 slot play and a free buffet. Sign up will begin in April; watch for date.

From Sunday, Aug. 25 through Thursday, Aug. 29, the 5 day, 4 night extended trip to Atlantic City at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino has been confirmed. The price is $550 per person and includes $60 in slots and $80 in food. The side trip will be to Historic Smithville (optional on Tuesday). Watch for flyers at the Center. The first payment of $275 is due on March 8 (insurance is optional and due at sign in). Balance is due on June 28. Call the center at 366-7530 for information.

Grape Belt Senior News

Aerobics and Weights with Catherine on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9 a.m. In the event that Catherine cancels aerobics and weights, she will post it on the Grape Belt Seniors Facebook page, on her own Facebook page, WDOE and Chautauqua Today.

2019 dues are now being collected at the Center.

All trips, extended as well as day trips, are open to the public; members and non-members. Fliers for upcoming trips for 2019 are available at the Center.

Trips planned for 2019 FIRST PAID – FIRST RESERVED!

May 13: DelLago Casino. Get $25 slot dollars and free lunch buffet. $32 per person. Pay by Feb. 10.

May 24: BPO “An American Salute.” Includes lunch at Pearl Street Grill. Sign up today. Pay by Feb. 10.

June 3: Murder at Lost Memories Manor. $97 per person. Interactive murder mystery at downtown Buffalo’s newly restored 115 year old landmark The Barrel Factory. Includes buffet luncheon. Check out Lakeward Spirits craft distillery, Pressure Drop Brewing craft brewery, Bar Cultivar, Distillery and Tasting room, and more. A “sweet” mystery stop will be made on the way home.

June 9: 1:10 p.m. Yankees and Cleveland Indians game. All you can eat buffet until 7th inning. Club seating!

This trip is full and finalized. May sign up in case there are cancellations.

June 26: Customer Appreciation. Seneca Niagara. Pay $30. Get $30 in slots and free buffet.

July 20: Great Wellsville Balloon Rally. $55 per person. See 35 Hot Air Balloons take flight from Island Park, making a delightful rainbow of color that floats over the Wellsville area. Enjoy the entertainment, food and vendors at the Main Street Festival.

July 26: Customer Appreciation. Seneca Niagara. Pay $30. Get $30 in slots and free buffet.

Aug. 21: Belhurst Castle. Built in the 1880’s overlooking Seneca Lake. $115 per person. Visit Three Brother Estate Winery. Enjoy 5 free tastings at three wineries and a microbrewery. Buffet lunch at Belhurst Castle. Belhurst Winery for 5 tastings. A stop at Muranda cheese factory before departing for home.

Sept. 4: Grove City Shopping and Oh, So Much More. $73 per person. Includes stop at Campbell Pottery in Cambridge Springs, Pennsylvania. Shopping at Grove City Outlet Mall. Includes lunch at Hoss’s Restaurant. Over 140 Brand Named Outlets. Final stop is Wendell August Forge featuring handcrafted metal giftware.

October: “Witches Brew” the musical – Bradford, Pennsylvania. $106 per person. First stop is Zippo/Case Museum. Next, enjoy a sit down lunch at Beefeaters Restaurant, followed by the Broadway style show, “Witches Brew, the Musical” featuring Enchante Cabaret. After the show, visit the Main Street Mercantile and the Tin Ceiling Gift Shop.

Mid-Atlantic Rail Adventure: April 24 to 27. Final payment is due immediately. Trip includes motor coach transportation to Pittsburgh and a river cruise on the Gateway Clipper. Rail transportation to Washington, D.C. aboard Amtrak’s full-service Capitol Limited. Monuments and memorials. Baltimore – Inner Harbor. National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Arlington National Cemetery. Return trip by motor coach departing from Baltimore.

Silver Creek Seniors

The Silver Creek Seniors canceled the weekly meeting scheduled for Jan. 22 due to the frigid weather. At the next meeting on Jan. 29, a pot luck luncheon will be served, courtesy of volunteers.
