Silver Creek Seniors

The Jan. 28 meeting was called to order on the last Tuesday of the month. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and “God Bless America” was sung with meaning. President Ed Newman invoked the blessing, giving thanks for the friends and the food we share, and the circle of love and prayer. Many thanks to the volunteers who prepared and served the following choice soups with herbs on the side – stuffed pepper, corn chowder with crab meat and cream of potato with ham. Delicious extras included shrimp cocktails and smoked kielbasa sections. Desserts on the menu were next: Hello Dolly and oatmeal cookies with fluffy raspberry gelatin on the side.

The Comedy Corner duo featuring Don Burghardt and Lorrie Newman followed with a variety of funny fables concerning a grandpa’s summons from the IRS, a discussion between a three-year-old and a mom-to-be and a police officer’s encounter with a gentleman who made coffins. Want to hear more? Come visit us at the Silver Creek Center on Tuesdays at 1 p.m.

Someone once asked, “what is the benefit of combining your mind, body and soul?” The answer was: “that if we do not do so, it takes away our happiness and joy.” Today’s memory songs help ensure us that in 2020 “Happy Days are Here Again” to stay, and that “Joy to the World” remains on earth “Till the End of Time.” In closing, it is now time for body and mind to “Rock My Soul”(in the bosom of Abraham).

50/50 winners were Bob Sutehall, Gene Chesbro and Judy Hahn. Door prizes were won by Ed Newman, Jean McDaneld and Enabel Mirando. President Newman called mind-sharpening bingo. Winners were Ginny Chesbro (twice), Mirando, Jen Zlotnick, McDaneld, Carm Tampio and Joan Suski.

A reminder was made to note that we will celebrate Valentine’s Day on Feb. 11 and January and February birthdays on Feb. 18.

At the next 1 p.m meeting on Feb. 4 at the Senior Center, volunteers will be serving lunch.
