Dunkirk High School: Valedictorian, salutatorian

Julia DeLand

Dunkirk High School has announced its Class of 2020 valedictorian and salutatorian.

Julia DeLand, daughter of Raymond and Cathryn DeLand, is valedicatorian. She is graduating with an overall weighted grade point average of 101.45. She is described as a very kind, hardworking and honest young lady.

She was involved in numerous activities at the High School and she enjoyed volunteering for the community. She held the treasurer role in her Art Club, school musical and French Club. She has participated in the school musicals since middle school. She was an active member of the Envirothon and spent time working with the CREATE project for the school library. Outside of school, she was an active dancer and a girl scout. Julia also worked a seasonal job for a local grill.

In the fall, she plans to pursue a major in accounting at Jamestown Community College. Julia is thankful for all the support she has received to help her continue striving toward her educational goals.

Berenice Ramirez, daughter of Francisco and Gloria Ramirez, is salutatorian. She is graduating with an overall weighted grade point average of 99.36. She is a member of the National Honor Society, where she is the historian and a member of the French Club. She spends time volunteering at a local nursing home and tutoring young children. She enjoys embroidery, needlework and baking for her family. She is described as a kind, compassionate and family oriented individual. She is happy to be a member of the Class of 2020 and graduate alongside several family members.

Berenice Ramirez

Berenice will be attending Jamestown Community College in the fall to study nursing. She said these past four years were only achievable because of her parents and her family support.

She would like to thank God for all of this and a special thanks to her parents. She said she is looking forward to their continual support in the next chapter of her life.
