Jamestown man charged with sex abuse, child victim

JAMESTOWN – A city man was charged Monday after allegedly having non-consensual sexual contact with a victim under 17 years old.

According to the Ellicott Police Depart-ment, a complaint was received on Nov. 4 that a female was allegedly being subjected to sexual contact by Paul A. Mercer, 46, of Jamestown.

Detective Brad Knight of the Ellicott Police Dept. said the girl was a foster child of Mercer’s and disclosed that the unwanted sexual contact allegedly occurred over the last year.

Mercer was located and taken to the Chautauqua County Jail after a warrant was obtained from Ellicott Town Court. Mercer was charged with third-degree sex abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.
