Name of New York student who drowned identified

WARREN, Pa. — Officials have released the identity of the man who drowned Wednesday evening in the Allegheny Reservoir.

Arpit Goyal, 24, of India, a student at the University of Buffalo, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Warren County Chief Deputy Coroner Tony Chimenti, Goyal was visiting the county with a group of friends. They were swimming at Kinzua Beach.

Chimenti said Goyal reportedly started to swim out to a buoy and went under.

The cause of death was established as accidental drowning, Chimenti said.

Numerous departments and agencies responded to the incident including: Glade, Clarendon, and City of Warren fire departments, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Warren County Public Safety, the Warren County Coroner’s Office, Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, U.S. Forest Service, and dive teams from McKean and Chautauqua (N.Y.) counties.
