CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY COURT

Angel Vargas-Mendoza, age 43 of Jamestown, was sentenced in Chautauqua County court by Judge David Foley to an indeterminate state prison sentence of 2-4 years after being convicted of second-degree attempted assault, a class E felony.

In July 2023, Vargas-Mendoza attacked the victim with a sharp metal object and caused physical injury and was charged with second-degree assault by the Jamestown Police Department. On Feb. 27, Vargas-Mendoza pleaded guilty to the lesser charge. He was sentenced as a second felony offender due to having two felony convictions within 10 years.
