South Dayton man charged in rape, weapons possession

SOUTH DAYTON — A South Dayton man is facing rape and weapons charges.

On Monday, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation executed a search warrant on Pine Street in the village of South Dayton stemming from a dissemination of indecent material of children out of State Police at Lockport. An investigation determined that Ronald A. Howard, 57, had exchanged indecent material with a child.

Howard had sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old female victim in Niagara County as a result. He was charged with the rape and other sex crime related charges out of Lockport. During the execution of the warrant in South Dayton, Howard was in possession of five handguns without serial numbers, two assault rifles without a serial number and one of them had a silencer, two assault rifle receivers without serial numbers, multiple large capacity magazines and two ballistic vests.

The Bureau of Criminal Investigation out of the State Police at Lockport and Collins charged Howard with second-degree rape, second-degree criminal sexual act, first-degree disseminating indecent material to a minor, second-degree possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, unlawful purchase of body armor and endangering the welfare of a child.

Howard was being held at Niagara County Jail for arraignment.
