MISSING SWIMMER’S BODY LOCATED IN CHAUTAUQUA LAKE

An Ohio man who was swimming and went missing on Chautauqua Lake was located Sunday.

On Saturday, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a submerged swimmer on Chautauqua Lake north of Chautauqua Institution. The Chautauqua County Water Emergency Team and the department’s marine division responded and were unable to locate the swimmer.

The search was paused due to darkness and resumed on Sunday. Around noon, the subject was located by the New York State Police Underwater Recovery team utilizing side scan sonar. Divers from CCWET recovered the body who was identified as Peter Pizzulo, 63, of Cortland, Ohio.

The Sheriff’s office was assisted by North Lake Fire Department, Bemus Point Fire Department, Lakewood Fire Department, and the state police Underwater Recovery team.

CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT

— HARMONY — A Forestville man has been charged in connection with burglaries in October. On Sunday, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police reported it received complaints of burglaries to a factory building on Fairbanks Road. It was reported that several thousand dollars of copper materials and other property was stolen from inside of the building on multiple occasions. After several months of investigation, Larry Whitehill Jr., 45, was charged with felonies of third-degree burglary, third-degree grand larceny and third-degree criminal mischief. He will be in town court later.

— At about 11:52 a.m. Friday, deputies responded to a one vehicle, property damage, auto accident on Route 5 in the town of Dunkirk. Upon arrival the operator of the vehicle was identified as Andrew S. Betts, 43, of Dunkirk. An investigation found Betts to be driving while ability impaired by drugs. Betts was transported to Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office for processing and released with tickets. Betts will be in the town of Dunkirk Court at a later date to answer charges of driving while ability impaired by drugs, failing to keep right and moving from lane unsafely.

— HANOVER — At around 9:40 p.m. Friday, deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident with property damage that occurred in the Town of Hanover. Through an investigation it was determined that 19-year-old Dwayne K. White of Dunkirk caused the accident. It was also determined White was operating the vehicle while intoxicated. He was charged with DWI, DWI per se and aggravated DWI and following too closely. He is to return to town court later.

— HANOVER — At around 12:17 a.m. Saturday, the Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Alleghany Road. The operator was identified as Jennifer A. Mccann, 46, of Angola. Further investigation found Mccann to be driving while intoxicated. She was charged with DWI and failing to stop at stop sign. She will answer her charges in town court later.

— BEMUS POINT — At around 11:43 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Bemus Point-Ellery Road. The operator was identified as John P. Martha, 59, of Butler, Pa. Further investigation found Martha to be driving while intoxicated. He was charged with DWI, DWI per se, and speed in zone. Martha will answer his charges in town of Ellery Court later.

JAMESTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT

— Athena M. Partyka, 22, of Jamestown, was charred with third-degree criminal mischief, third-degree criminal tampering and resisting arrest.

On June 17, at approximately 5:30 a.m., officers responded to a panic alarm at a downtown address. Upon arrival, they found Partyka inside the business displaying erratic behavior.

Following an investigation, it was determined that Partyka had caused approximately $1,000 in damages to the property. When informed that she was under arrest, Partyka briefly resisted arrest before being taken into custody. She was transported to the Jamestown City Jail and held pending arraignment.

— Robert G. Gilbert, 24, of Jamestown was charged with having an outstanding arrest warrant and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance after an incident around 4 p.m. Friday.

Officers were working a GIVE patrol detail in the area of Forest at McKinley Avenues. Officers observed the suspect, Gilbert, walking south on Forest Avenue. Officers had prior knowledge that Gilbert had an outstanding arrest warrant out of the city of Jamestown. He was taken into custody and transported to the Jamestown city jail, where he was found to be in possession of a small quantity of cocaine.

— Ladaya R Blankenship, 28, was charged with first-degree criminal contempt and other felony domestic violence arrest warrants after an incident around 8:15 p.m. Thursday.

Officers responded to a northside address in the city for a report of a domestic incident. Upon officers arrival, officers made contact with the caller, Blankenship. Through an investigation, officers found multiple pending domestic violence arrest warrants for Blankenship. Officers also found Blankenship to be actively violating a duly served order of protection by harassing the victim.

Blankenship was taken into custody and transported to Jamestown city jail.

— Joshua T. Berg, 36, of Jamestown was charged with third-degree criminal mischief and fourth-degree grand larceny.

At 11 a.m. Saturday, Officers responded to the area of Maple and Arnold streets for a burglary complaint. Upon arrival, officers located Berg, pushing an air conditioner condenser on Arnold Street. Further investigation found that Berg cut and removed the unit from a nearby residence. He was taken into custody without incident.

— Rolando R. Galarza Alvarez, 39, of Jamestown was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief.

At approximately 3:40 a.m. Sunday, officers were on routine patrol on the city’s east side. While at an intersection, officers observed Galarza Alvarez grab a victim’s phone out of her hand and smash it on the ground during a domestic incident. Galarza Alvarez was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Jamestown City Jail and was held pending arraignment.
