JBC Penny Challenge to benefit Veteran’s Association

JAMESTOWN – Jamestown Business College students recently created and coordinated a fundraising effort that focused on change – loose change. JBC’s “Penny Challenge” recently concluded with all proceeds to benefit the local Veteran’s Association.

Day and evening weekend students, faculty, and staff were placed in teams and were challenged to collect the most change they could for their team. With pennies being most desirable, competitors could cancel out the earnings of other teams by placing nickels, dimes, quarters and bills into others’ jars.

JBC faculty member Pamela Reese helped her marketing students coordinate the activity and said that it offered the perfect opportunity to explore a variety of marketing concepts.

“As a group, students were charged with creating the fundraiser utilizing marketing concepts to get the word out to the college community,” she said. “The idea really grew into a fun activity for the whole college and one that helped to benefit a great cause.”

The college raised more than $200 for the charity.
