Mason Funeral Home adds staff member

WESTFIELD – S. Scott Mason, Certified Funeral Service Practitioner and the owner and manager of the Mason Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St., Westfield, is pleased to announce the addition of Douglas W. Sanderson to his staff.

Sanderson is a recent NYS-licensed funeral director, having graduated from the American Academy-McAllister Institute of New York City with his associate degree in occupational studies – funeral service, where he earned top honors in his class. He will assume all the responsibilities of his degree and will assist in the day-to-day operation of the funeral home.

Sanderson is the son of James and Shirley (Leach) Sanderson and the husband of Donna (Winslow) Sanderson. Doug and Donna have three children that all live locally with their spouses, Kayla (RJ) Hotchkiss, Andrew (Erica) Sanderson and Rachael (Jason) Carr. They are also the proud grandparents of five grandchildren.

Sanderson is no stranger to funeral service; he has worked at the funeral home in various capacities since he was 16 years old. He has always had a passion for funeral service and for helping others in their time of need.

He is a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #118 of Westfield and the Westfield Fireman’s Exempt Association. He is a former member and officer of the Westfield Fire Department and its rescue squad, where he served several years as captain.

In what little spare time he has, Sanderson enjoys spending time with his family and puttering around his home.

The Mason Funeral Home, locally owned and operated, has continued to provide funeral care for area residents for over 117 years; and under current ownership and management since 1993.

The Mason Funeral Home has carried on the dignified services that began in 1896 with the Carpenter Funeral Service, then in 1955 the Wallace Funeral Home and in 1980 the Brewer Funeral Home until 1993, when the Masons took over the proud tradition. For more information, call the funeral home at 326-2811 or go to www.masonfuneral.com.
