Cummins to incur $2B fine over pick-up truck emissions

Cummins Inc. has agreed to pay a $2.04 billion charge to resolve discrepancies in emissions certifications in some of Cummins’ pick-up truck engines. Cummins officials told investor analysts during its second quarter earnings conference call that a fine was possible. Company officials announced in late December that Cummins had finalized the deal. Cummins expects to record a charge of $2.04 billion in the fourth quarter of 2023 to resolve the issues, which involved a million pick-up truck engines in the United States. Electrovaya has big plans for Ellicott battery factory if funding is secured

Electrovaya is hiring key staff members for its Ellicott gigafactory with production possible in mid 2025 - as long as financing for construction is secured. The company has completed engineering studies for the Jamestown site, located in the former Acu-Rite building in Ellicott, and has also updated environmental studies. Lee Gilmore as the general manager of the Ellicott facility and other staff are being hired. New line for county’s biggest private employer drives headlines in ‘23

The Jamestown area is shaping up to become a key player in environmentally friendly transportation in the coming year. As The Post-Journal reported nearly a year ago, Cummins Inc. will bring its fuel agnostic X15N engine line to its Jamestown Engine Plant in 2024 as part of a multi-year project that ends in 2026 while Electrovaya is expected to open its Gigafactory in the former Acu-Rite building in Ellicott this year as well.
